"So, where to start! I’ve been promising Amy a review for a long time, and I guess after my first year with Ethos, now is as good a time as any… apologies for the delay! When I got in touch with Amy I was 45 years old, and starting to feel it, 6”2 and 92.6kg, and my blood pressure was well into stage 1 hypertension. Unfortunately for me, any surplus weight I carry sits on my torso, my arms and legs stay stick thin! I do have pictures from back then, it wasn’t a good look at all.
A year later, I’m a year older, and still 6” 2, but that’s where the similarities end….. I’ve lost 13.8kg and 44cm of fat. My blood pressure is just a touch outside of optimal and I have a resting heart rate of 45bpm. I sleep well, I feel good, I look good (which if you know me, self-praise is not something I do!) and now I can run, barring the odd twinge of osteoarthritis in my knee! My best 5k times is just under 24 minutes and just under an hour for 10k, a year ago I could not run to the end of the road.
And this was all achieved with Amy’s guiding light, through diet and exercise alone, no tablets, potions or old wives tales, just me not wanting to have a stroke or heart attack somewhere in the next 10 years, because that is where I was heading.
I was completely honest with Amy, what I was putting in my body and my levels of (in)activity and in turn she has been honest with me. I’ve trusted what she has asked of me, and what she’s had me do, and the results are there for all to see…
I’ve been through the same things we all do, the good days and bad, birthday parties, the weddings (including my own!!)and the funerals. My weight has gone up as well as go down, I had weigh ins that would really make me despondent because I’d lose less than I thought, or even put weight on! It’s never been easy, Amy makes sure of that! One thing I have learnt that if you really want something, you have to be prepared to work for it, a few PT sessions just will not cut it. The point is, I had to cut out all the crap, the biscuits, the crisps and chocolate, cakes, all of it gone. I started training with Amy 3 times a week, and it was horrible and painful and there are times I really didn’t want to go. But you only get out what you are prepared put in.
Amy has been amazingly supportive, helpful, and informative. If I want to know why I’m doing something or which muscles we’re working on, or even what foods to try, she’s a fountain of knowledge; she really does know her stuff! It’s been hard, but it’s been so rewarding, and I’m not stopping now. Amy, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, you quite possibly are a literal life saver! You’ve given me the bug, and I’m planning the next year."
"Having severe asthma and a lung condition I was worried about exercising after having been ill for so long and not doing any form exercise. Amy was fantastic in encouraging me and tailoring the different exercises to my level easing me in. I've been going to circuit training every week for the last 4 months and I have seen a great improvement in my lung capacity and can't thank Amy enough."
